The art quartet DIE VETTERN (Engl.: “the cousins”) was founded in 2009 by the four female visual artists Lina P. Vargas De La Hoz, Iris Christine Aue, Evi Leuchtgelb, and Christina Aistleitner.
All four women are graduates of the Kunstuniversität Linz (University of Arts in Linz, Austria). They founded the group because they were former classmates and friends, who are very interested in each other’s techniques and who enjoy the enriching experience of working with one another. What’s important to us is to have the group benefi t from the formal diversity of themes, the different strategies and themes followed by individual artists. At the same time, we want to develop and sharpen each artist’s individual performance through collaboration, critical analysis, and group discussios. Apart from helping each artist to individually grow and develop their artistic skills further, we also want to implement joint projects and exhibitions together.

At the moment, we are working on a joint  project entitled “Packing our suitcase…” (“Wir  packen in unseren Koffer…”). This project is dedicated to an analysis of the everyday  cultures that are prevalent in the cities of Linz,
Vienna, and Washington, D.C.

Finally, our joint projects are the sum of each artist’s process-oriented interactions with her own individual artistic techniques.
